Embrace your superpower!

Just me

July 24, 2022

Dear Family and Friends,

Sometimes I call myself “the invisible missionary” because I don’t have a companion or any specific assignment.  When I say I don’t have an assignment I mean that no one asks me to do anything.  I just show up at places where I think they might need a hand and I go to work. One time I showed up at a ward activity and put myself to work in the kitchen.  The ward mission leader came in and said, “Wow, you’re just hiding in plain sight!”  Yep, that’s my super power--invisibility!

I’ve been helping the sister missionaries teach ESL for a year now, and I thought my leaders knew that, but maybe they don’t, because they’ve recently asked another couple to teach the class. Last week, however, the missionaries had an emergency and didn’t show up and the newly recruited teacher wasn’t back from vacation yet.  Yeah…I’m glad I was there.

I was feeling a little sad about my invisibility, but then a scripture came to mind, “Thou God seest me…”  (Genesis 16:13) It’s about Hagar when she has been sent away and is alone, thirsty, and probably feeling unappreciated. That comforted me.  Later in the week, when I was helping some people with family history they thanked me profusely.  And then a total stranger in a Walmart parking lot asked me if I was an angel! Hahaha! I told him we are all children of a loving Father in Heaven.  He said he had seen me at the store on several occasions and had observed me being kind.  He asked what church I go to.  Two thoughts come to mind (1) Wow, you never know when someone is watching; and (2) He must have observed me on one of my few good days! Hahaha!

Embrace your superpower!

I love you all,
