Be the angel

Dear Family & Friends,

Sometimes I can’t think of anything to write about.  I keep thinking I need to have amazing experiences to share, but I usually don’t.  And when I focus on what I am not doing, I begin to feel small and alone.

I was in one of these moods recently when I read about the Old Testament prophet Elijah.  Elijah had some amazing experiences, like calling down fire from heaven to show the people the power of the true and living God.  (1 Kings 18:21-39) But what caught my attention was what happened afterward when Elijah was alone and hiding from Queen Jezebel who wanted to kill him.  (1 Kings 19) “O Lord, take away my life” Elijah prays and then he falls asleep.  When Elijah wakes up, an angel has prepared food for him.  The angel tells Elijah, “Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.”  My thoughts were these: Life is a journey.  Everyone is on a journey.  Be the angel.

Last week I was able to go with Hermana Morales and Hermana Johnson to teach our new friend Saul.  In church Sunday I observed the Martinez family invite Saul and another of our new friends to sit with them.

A couple weeks ago I went to the baptism of the teen-age daughter of Sister Calderon.  Sunday, I saw this young girl go and sit with a couple who had returned to church after years of inactivity.

Last year when one of my family members tried to commit suicide, two of his cousins ran to his rescue and stayed with him.  They and others continue to stay connected with him.

Elijah thought he was alone when he said, “I, even I only, am left.”  This wasn’t true, of course.  God reassures Elijah, “Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal….”  One of these is Elisha who follows after Elijah.

Satan wants us to think we are alone.  Satan is a liar.  The prophet Elisha taught, “…they that be with us are more than they that be with them.”

I know God loves all of His children and wants us to return to live with Him.  We can help.  President Spencer W Kimball said, “God does notice us, and he watches over us. But it is usually through another person that he meets our needs.” What a privilege it is to partner with deity.  Thanks for all the good you do😊

I love you all!
