Sharing Joy

Dear Family & Friends,
It’s been an interesting week. I’ll share a few highlights: Our friend Omar wants to be baptized. The temple is holy ground. Goodberries is a great place to buy frozen custard and share the gospel. Cooking 10 pounds of bacon is noisy. My companion went to live with her daughter. We have a living prophet on the earth today.
The best part of my week was seeing the happiness in the eyes of our friend Omar when he told us of his decision to be baptized. He gave a very lengthy and inspiring account of his faith journey beginning when he met the missionaries quite by chance. He said the teachings of the gospel made sense. He liked the people at church and liked what he observed: individuals and families loving and serving one another. He smiled the whole time he was talking.
Wednesday evening I took Hermanas McHenry & Morales to the temple. Our friends Carlos, Santiago, Orlin, and Andres met us there. Orlin was just baptized a few weeks ago. Santiago is preparing to serve a mission. I am so impressed at how these young men are growing in the gospel. We were also joined by three elders and their new friend Jonathan. Jonathon was baptized just a week ago. They were all so happy to be at the temple. I know the temple is a holy place because of the love, joy, and peace I feel when I am there. (See Galatians 5:22)
Afterward we got frozen custard at a place called Goodberries. While we were waiting for our treats, I asked a customer who was standing next to me in line if she was interested in why these young people would give up two years of their lives to teach people about Jesus. She said yes and our missionaries shared a brief little on-the-spot lesson with her!
Friday my companion told me she was transferring to a mission where her daughter lives. Her son and his wife were here to help her pack and move.
Saturday morning I cooked about 10 lbs (at least) of bacon for the Knightdale Ward breakfast. (At the time I volunteered for this I didn’t know how much bacon I would be cooking.) It took about two hours, set off both smoke alarms, and I had to clean the oven. That’s something I won’t volunteer for again!
General Conference was awesome! I am confident that anyone who listens to conference will know that we have a living prophet on the earth today.
Share the joy!
I love you all,
Sister Manwaring
