It's all about love!

Dear Family and Friends,
My activities this week have ranged from serious to silly.
For example, one of my activities involved working on the cross to be used in an Easter pageant this weekend. A friend and I were tasked with making it look old, worn, and cruel. We beat it with hammers and other blunt instruments. We also rubbed it with dirt and stuff. While doing this I found myself humming the song, “Upon the Cross of Calvary.” I am so thankful for my Savior who made it possible for us to return to our Father in Heaven.
I observed this gratitude for our Savior in our friend Kenneth when our Family History group helped him find records of his family members who passed away. Kenneth is looking forward to going to the temple to be baptized in behalf of his brothers who died in a very tragic manner. Kenneth said that other ministers had told him that his brothers would go to hell, so the Plan of Salvation gives him great comfort.
I was able to help teach this Plan of salvation to our friend Mauricio with Hermanas McHenry and Morales. When they told him that the dead will have a chance to hear the gospel, he seemed doubtful. The hermanas showed him how the Plan of Salvation is taught plainly in the Book of Mormon, but he wondered if it was also in the Bible. So I told him that this was not new doctrine and had him read 1 Peter 4:6 and 1 Peter 3:19. After he read these, he seemed stunned and wondered aloud why his own church hadn’t taught him this. He also seemed surprised when the hermanas taught him that everyone would be resurrected and that the kingdom of God has many mansions. (See 1Corinthians 15 & John 14:2)
And speaking of mansions, I got to help set up a home for a refugee family. Well, it’s not actually a mansion, but it seems like a mansion to them because they have been living in a refugee camp for the last eight years! What a privilege it was to be part of this loving service!
Later, in our ESL class, a student asked me to explain the words, anyone, someone, anybody, somebody, etc. After giving them several examples, I played for them a video (with subtitles) of Queen singing “Somebody to Love.”
They enjoyed this example and we all laughed a lot.
From serious to silly, but it’s all about love.
I love you forever,
Sister Manwaring
