Dear Family and Friends,
I got to participate in three of my favorite activities this week (only one of which is represented in the attached photos
) On Tuesday I was able to help the hermanas teach two new people. On Wednesday I was able to help set up an apartment for Afghan refugees, and on Saturday I was able to serve in the temple.
One of the persons I was able to help teach was Mauricio. He misses his family. He also spoke of the sadness he experienced when his father and mother separated. Hermanas McHenry and Morales chose to teach about the God’s plan of salvation--the purpose of life--why we are here on earth and how God has provided a way for us to return to Him. Hermana Morales shared with him Alma 7:11-12 and pointed out that our Savior not only suffered for our sins, He also suffered for our pains and disappointments. And because He suffered all things, he knows how to comfort us. Then in an inspired moment, she reminded him that our savior also knew what it was like to be separated from His father.

On Wednesday my friend Jolee and I were able to help set up an apartment for Afghan refugees. At first it was just two of us, but then the Afghan family came and helped out. I was so happy to meet them. (I wanted to take a photo of them, but they declined.) While I was there, I kept thinking of how our Lord was once a refugee himself. (Matthew 2:14)
Actually, it just occurred to me that all my efforts this week have involved helping people who have been separated from families. Truly, our loving Heavenly Father is mindful of all His children and has provided a way for us to return to live with him as families. (For more information about temples visit this link.) Families are forever! What a joy it is to participate in this work.
I love you all,
Sister Manwaring
PS. I hope you all enjoy General Conference this weekend!
