Trying to be helpful

Dear Family and Friends,
Probably the hardest thing I do all week is write this letter
It’s the same thing every week. Basically, I’m just trying to be helpful to people.
Wednesday afternoon when I was at the park a woman lost her child, so several of us jumped to her assistance. She found him pretty quickly and was very relieved. She said she felt like a bad mom to have allowed this to happen, but other moms told her they’d had similar experiences. I piped up that even Mary & Joseph lost Jesus. I don’t know if this helped.
On Friday my companion and I visited Linda & Coleen. They’ve given up on the battle against smoking. It’s pretty hard to quit, especially because Linda’s husband smokes. They seemed to be feeling kinda down due to health problems and other stuff. Then I made the mistake of asking about their family and heard some really sad stuff. I told them that I believe most people are acting out of limited knowledge. I testified to them that as the Apostle Paul wrote, in this life “we see through a glass darkly" but that in the next life we will truly see each other “face to face" and shall know even as we are known. (1Corinthians 13:12) I encouraged them to treat people as if they are doing their best. I don’t know if this helped.
On Saturday I was able to go with the hermanas to teach a young man. He said he hadn’t been reading his scriptures. I encouraged him by telling him that scriptures are ancient text messages from God. I pointed out that we don’t like it when we text someone and they don’t bother to read our text. Even with my limited Spanish, this seemed to hit home.
I love you all!
Keep trying to be helpful
